Get out and vote!

Just one more day to go before the election!

Electioneering just isn’t allowed on the actual election day. This weekend was the last chance to reach out to the voters.

Today was the last push for the Conservative campaign for Stephen Rogers in Vancouver Quadra.

There are some good signs that the times, they are a changin’. Out for a walkabout along Broadway and Kerrisdale on Saturday, our little parade of supporters with balloons and Conservative-logo emblazoned umbrellas got some attention.

One guy even called me over from across the street because he wanted to have my sign.

Today’s door-knocking adventure around the Dunbar area likewise gave us some cause for cautious optimism. Once again, the common theme of the voters was that they’d voted for the Liberals last time out of habit, but that their patience had finally run out with the corrupt Grits.

We may also be benefiting from the public’s perception of where this election is heading – at the very least, a minority government for the Conservatives. People will want local representation if the Conservatives win to make sure their needs get looked after.

At the same time, our party has been in opposition for over a decade. Hopefully, we’ll also benefit a little from the underdog factor.

As good as the signs might be for the Conservatives nationally, the overwhelming Liberal sweep of this riding only 18 months ago is an optimism-shrinking cold bucket of water. To break through, we’ll need every Conservative supporter to actually get out the vote.

As they say, talk is cheap – the ballots will tell this story.

To all the great people I’ve met working on the campaign – Stephen, Dan, George, Barb, Malcolm, Randy, Malcolm, Less, Val and everyone else (there’s just way too many people to list!) it’s been a real pleasure. See you at the party tomorrow!
